چکیده

Abstract Lichens are one of the most responsive components ecosystem to reactive forms nitrogen. In this work, we selected lichen genera Cladonia and Usnea , composed terricolous epiphytic lichens respectively, described as sensitive nitrogen, test effects different doses nitrogen on physiological parameters (photobiont mycobiont vitality, chitin quantification, content stable isotopes analysis). The main objectives were check if activation protective mechanisms could be stimulated in case chronic stress (low increase for prolonged time), and, so, a toxicity threshold identified above which these fail. two generally affected by exposure increased availability. However, rangiformis was able maintain functioning at lowest used, whereas thalli become overwhelmed. Moreover, appeared more than photobiont responding lower doses. Although only studies longer duration testing will determine an accurate threshold, results give important clues use biomonitors establishment environmental policies.

Natural variation of Arabidopsis response to nitrogen availability.

Our understanding of plant growth in response to nitrogen (N) supply is mainly based on studies of mutants and transformants. This study explored the natural variability of Arabidopsis thaliana first to find out its global response to N availability and secondly to characterize the plasticity for growth and N metabolism among 23 genetically distant accessions under normal (N+), limited (N-), an...

Floret development of durum wheat in response to nitrogen availability

In Mediterranean durum wheat production, nitrogen (N) fertilization may be important to stabilize and increase yields. Wheat yield responses to N fertilization are usually related to grains per m(2), which in turn is the consequence of processes related to floret development (floret initiation followed by floret death/survival) during stem elongation. The literature is rather scarce in terms of...

Response of Mycobacterium tuberculosis to reactive oxygen and nitrogen intermediates.

BACKGROUND Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a significant human pathogen capable of replicating in mononuclear phagocytic cells. Exposure to reactive oxygen and nitrogen intermediates is likely to represent an important aspect of the life cycle of this organism. The response of M. tuberculosis to these agents may be of significance for its survival in the host. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patterns of ...

Nitrogen metabolism of two contrasting poplar species during acclimation to limiting nitrogen availability

To investigate N metabolism of two contrasting Populus species in acclimation to low N availability, saplings of slow-growing species (Populus popularis, Pp) and a fast-growing species (Populus alba × Populus glandulosa, Pg) were exposed to 10, 100, or 1000 μM NH4NO3. Despite greater root biomass and fine root surface area in Pp, lower net influxes of NH4(+) and NO3(-) at the root surface were ...
